I hate the sound of thunder. When I hear thunder I retreat to the bedroom, hop on the bed and curl up in a ball. If I’m not trying to hide my eyes, I’m on the floor of the windowless bathroom looking away.
This morning the NY Dance Parade went by my apartment and marching band after marching band kept going by. Every time I heard those drums, I ran into my lobby. My father and I ended up waiting half the morning in the lobby, missing most of the show…
It was really scary, and I although I think my dad was pissed he missed the Freedom Party float, especially when my uncle, DJ Herbert
was in dj-ing, I know he would rather me be happy than scared.
Any suggestions on how my parents can deal with my negative reaction to thunder or drums would be greatly appreciated…
Slowly introducing him to sudden sounds maybe? and everytime he does not react, give him a treat. Increase how loud it get as he makes progress! I think that sometimes they know what you expect from them so give him the energy of, ” this is nothing! rather than oh man he is going to bolt?” Worth a try! Get dog whisperer on the case! I am curious about his input!
