I know when mom and dad start packing something is up… Either we are all are going on a trip together or they are leaving me with one of my Uncles or Aunts to babysit… Over the years I have learned some things.
First my parents make sure to pack most of their stuff when I’m not around probably because they don’t want me to get too anxious.
Secondly, my food is usually placed in individual bags to make it easier for someone to feed me my meals, a ball or two, a blanket, and a toy are all placed in a ‘to go bag’ .
Thirdly, my mommy always makes sure to tell my sitter that I like to countersurf when no one is around, . especially when there is food on the counter, this way my sitter keeps food away from my reach when no one is around… damn that rule, cause I like to sneak food when no one is around.
Fourthly, I also notice that mom and dad make sure that I am fed at the same time I am normally, as well as write down any special instructions that my sitter needs to find know.
Fifthly, parents always make sure to spend some extra time with me at one of my favorite dog parks or take me out with them to dinner before they leave. This helps a lot because it makes sure they and I have some great quality time before they leave.
Lastly, when it is time for mom and dad to leave mom walks me to my sitters house, says goodbye and then goes home to get her bags and leave. My mom never lets me see her bags right before she is leaving for a trip away… I think it is easier for her this way…
If you parents out there also have some ideas, feel free to share them with either my readers here or email ’em to me. Anything to help my furry friends to have smoother transition when mommy’s and daddy’s travel…
